Preliminary Production Evaluation
The mise - en - scene for this shot, wasn't the exact same as the original advert. Despite them both being set in a narrow aisle/ corridor, our shot lacks the variety of colour as it isn't set down an isle in a shop. Not only this, our shot also lacks the accessories, such as lots of jewels and necklaces, which are used in the advert, but the use of resources makes the shot look as similar as possible with what was available for us to use.The lighting in our advert isn't the same a the original, it needed to have a greener and darker contrast to it, also in the original video there is a light above the actors head, which has a dramatic effect on the video, as our shot doesn't have this, the lighting doesn't have the same effect.
In this scene, we didn't have the correct background, as we needed mirrors to reflect the lighting, this makes our scene look different from the original as we weren't able to get the same effect of the lighting being gradient from a green to a blue colour. Also. the lighting in our sht isnt bright enough, which means the shot is darker and has shadows behind our actor and on her face and body. This makes the scene not have the same bright and dramatic effect. Despite this, the use of props and clothing look similar to the original scene, with a pink wig making the actors look similar. The actors positioning isn't the same as in the original advert, with out moving and the original glaring down at the camera in a still position.
The scene that we recreated is similar to the original, however could gave many improvements. First of all,the shot is not the right orientation. Because the shot was taken portrait, we had to rotate it so that it fir with the rest if the video. This meant that the shot was the wrong way round so doesn't look like the original. Not only this, the positioning of the lower ladies arm isn't the exact same as the originals, and there inst a man present in the shot holding the elder ladies hand. Despite this, the clothing on the elder lady is very similar to whats worm by the lady in the original shot, and the positioning of the two actors is almost the exact same. The lighting however inst the same as whats on the original video, which had dark shadows and a green tint.
Our shots for this scene were extremely similar to the original shot in the advert. The clothing choice and mise en scene was pretty similar, despite it being set in a different country, which made the shot look much like the original. Despite this,m in the particular shot our camera shot isn't central, with the actor slightly too much to the left of the shot, revealing too much of the road behind her. The distance between the camera and actor however is almost the exact same. The lighting in our video isn't the same as the advert,m with the advert appearing to have a darker and a bluer tinge to it.
How organised were you as a group? What elements of organisation were vital to you as a production group?
Our group was well organised, which helped us overall finish our video to a high standard that we were content with. To us it was vital that we had our scenes finished ready for the correct days that we were editing, so that therefore the work didn't become overwhelming.
What technologies did you use and how did they serve to develop your skills as a media practitioner?
We used iMovie to edit and put our clips together. Within iMovie, we used the different element to edit the lighting, sound and length of scenes. To film the majority of our scenes, we use the Phone, as the are quality was similar to what was available on a camera, we also have easier access to a phone and it was easier to transport the videos onto the computer to edit.
How creative do you think you were during this process? What elements of the project required creativity and imagination, even though you were given a very structured brief to 'copy'?
As a group i think that we were very creative when it came to creating the copy of the advert. During the scene that originally taken place in an Asian supermarket, we sadly dint have access to a shopping centre to record a replicate, so therefore used our creativity and recorded the scene in a narrow corridor in the college. Not only this, there was lots of props and jewelry used in this scene, which we also dint have, so therefore used our imagination to make a paper copy of the crown used in the original video, to make it look as similar as possible/. Also, we group we came together to bring lots of accessories and jewelry in for the making of this scene. Another scene which we used our creativity, was when the Asian girl was in a club with a variety of lights shining on her in a doll-like outfit. For this, we used the clothing that was available, from home and within the college to make it look as similar as possible. a problem that we had though was the lighting. We didn't have any acrylic sheets to make the colours of the light change, so therefore recorded the video in good lighting with a white background, and then when it came o editing, we made the scene appear like the lighting was pink, then appear to change to blue.
How successful do you think your first draft video is? Use examples from the film to illustrate your evaluations.
Over all, i think that our video was successful. Despite this there are many improvements that could be made. During the making of the video, it came across many difficulties when trying to film some scenes, which made them not look as similar to the original. For example, when filming the toddler, it wasn't very successful as she didn't want to take part and it was difficult to make her do the same actions as the original child. Also, we found it difficult to film the scene of the Asian girl in a club and the scene that taken place in a super market. This was because we didn't have access to the same resources or permission to film in either of these locations, therefore as a group we had to compromise and be creative with our choice of the setting in order to make the scenes look as similar as possible.
In preparation for the next stage of your production work, what knowledge of experience will you take with you into the next project?
For my next project, I will make sure that I make great use of the time given to me and plan the scenes well. I will also know how to effectively edit from previously using the software which will help a lot when it comes to my next production.
